While Western medicine often breaks the body into parts to diagnose and treat symptoms, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) embraces a holistic philosophy—focusing on restoring balance within the body, mind, spirit, and environment. Despite their differing methodologies, both modalities share a common goal: to relieve pain, expel toxins, restore function, and support the body’s return to homeostasis. The session introduces a range of Eastern medicine practices such as acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, and energy-based therapies, highlighting their potential role in modern rehabilitation. Physiotherapists will learn how understanding Eastern philosophies can complement their clinical reasoning and allow for more collaborative, integrative care—especially when patients are already engaging in these modalities. This course encourages open-minded exploration of healing practices from both traditions, with a view toward using different tools to reach the same therapeutic outcomes.
