About

Duration: 1 hour | CEU Points awarded: 1 General (CEUs), Level 1, Accreditation Number: PPB007/2025/01/014 Understanding Pain Management – A Biopsychosocial Approach Course Description:In this course, you will gain a deeper understanding of pain as a complex, multifaceted experience that goes far beyond physical sensation. Guided by the International Association for the Study of Pain’s definition, the course explores how biological, psychological, and social factors influence individual pain experiences. You’ll learn to distinguish between pain and nociception, gaining insight into why pain cannot be explained solely through neural activity. Through the study of pain mechanisms—covering nociceptive pathways, the spinal cord, and brain function—you will develop a foundational understanding of how pain is processed, perceived, and expressed. The course also highlights the importance of personal history and cultural context in shaping pain experiences, and addresses how to navigate communication challenges, including with nonverbal individuals. Emphasis is placed on compassionate, evidence-informed care, recognizing that all pain is real to the person experiencing it. By the end of the course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and empathy to assess and manage pain holistically, using a biopsychosocial model that enhances both clinical outcomes and patient trust.
